S2/01. Trash Talk

1.4 Alejandro Gonzales
Spring 1998, Alejandro's apartment, San Myshuno

Alejandro took a deep breath of the cool night air. The scent of freedom.

As much as Rita throwing him out had been a bucket of ice water over his head, in hindsight it was the best thing that’d happened to him since he'd made his love for music a profession. Sure, it was with Rita's help and – you could say, ‘light pressure’, after all, it was Rita who’d arranged the connections to his agent at the time.
"Your reputation is already in the gutter- at least no one will care if you're in that kind of business" she’d said.

Practical woman, that Rita, and business savvy too, but it was Alejandro who had worked his ass off to get where he was now. Alejandro who’d practiced every minute, picked the right people for his band, and built "Deep Rift" brand up from nothing.

San Myshuno was just the next step to more success.

Nico had objected at first, as expected, claimed that they'd be forced to give up their integrity if they signed with a major label.

Blah blah blah.
Alejandro called it bullshit.

They weren't clueless newbies anymore, they had years of experience ‌in‌ ‌the‌ ‌business‌ ‌and‌ ‌Joanne‌ ‌was‌ ‌one‌ hell of a ‌smart‌ ‌ass‌ ‌agent; no way they’d be forced into selling out.
Alejandro‌ ‌suspected‌ ‌Nico‌ was just trying to find an excuse not to have to break up with his girlfriend for a long distance move; as‌ ‌if‌ ‌he‌ ‌couldn't‌ ‌find‌ ‌a‌ ‌pretty,‌ ‌dumb,‌ ‌high‌ ‌maintenance‌ ‌chick‌ ‌anywhere‌ ‌in‌ ‌San‌ ‌My.‌

As for Francesco – that fucker was thirsty for the stage like no one else. That‌ ‌man‌ ‌ate, slept, and breathed‌ ‌attention, of course he was in it if it meant a bigger audience and better chances to broadcast their music vids.
Until now, the vocalist only had hesitated to sign because his wife didn't want to move away from Oasis Springs.
But she was history now.

Francesco had finally dumped Psycho-Barbie – turned out she was a jealous nightmare. God‌ ‌knows‌ ‌how‌ ‌that‌ ‌guy‌ ‌survived‌ ‌her‌ ‌for‌ ‌so‌ ‌long, let alone marrying the crazy chick.‌
Alejandro wondered if Francesco had some masochistic tendencies.

It would probably take a while for Francesco to get rid of her now, and not without some collateral damage, but the guy seemed fine enough. He was more relaxed and focused on his work than ever, and even‌ ‌got‌ ‌himself‌ ‌a‌ ‌new‌ casual‌ ‌fling. Alejandro hoped ‌Francesco‌ had ‌learned‌ ‌his‌ ‌lesson‌ ‌that‌ ‌caring‌ ‌too‌ ‌much‌ ‌was‌ ‌always‌ ‌a‌ ‌mistake.‌ ‌

Life could only get better.
Nothing would hold them back.
Alejandro couldn't help but smile.

Finally, the door bell rung and he went to tell the cab driver that their customer would come down soon.

"Why don't you let me stay?" the woman on his bed purred. "What if you wake up tonight and you're lonely? You'll‌ ‌have‌ ‌no‌ ‌one‌ ‌here‌ ‌to‌ ‌keep‌ ‌you‌ ‌company, and you'd‌ ‌miss‌ ‌me"
Alejandro would not. In case she hadn't noticed, he had two healthy, functional hands.

"Honey, I have a hard day tomorrow. Can't have my manager yell at me for falling asleep during practice."
That never happened. And Joanne never yelled.

What's-her-name pouted. "So I'm a bother to you..."
Wait – was that his shirt? She'd probably made it all wrinkly. Damn these women, couldn't they just put on their own clothes?

"More like a distraction," he winked.

The chick relaxed and slid out of the bed. "Maybe we can have another five minutes?"

Pressing ‌her‌ ‌half-naked‌ ‌body‌ ‌against‌ ‌his‌, ‌she ‌let‌ ‌her‌ ‌fingers‌ ‌run‌ ‌up‌ ‌and‌ ‌down‌ his arm.
Greedy girl.
Under‌ ‌different‌ ‌circumstances‌ he might’ve been game,‌ ‌but‌ ‌they‌’d already been at it for two hours,‌ ‌he‌ ‌was‌ ‌tired,‌ ‌and‌ ‌God‌ ‌damnit,‌ ‌he‌ ‌wanted‌ ‌to‌ ‌‌sleep‌.‌

"You're worth more time than that, honey," he tried to muster some patience, "but we can't have the poor driver wait forever, he has to earn his living too."

The woman let out a deep sigh before she gathered her stuff. Wait - she‌ ‌wasn’t ‌even‌ going to ‌change‌ ‌out‌ ‌of‌ ‌his‌ ‌shirt, she‌ ‌just tucked‌ ‌it‌ ‌into‌ ‌her‌ ‌skirt.

"Honey," he interrupted her stuffing her own top in her tiny handbag, "take off my shirt, will ya." No way ‌he'd‌ let her walk out with it – God knows if he'd ever get it back.
And he liked this shirt. Pure silk.
What’s-her-face ‌paused‌, and a ‌lascivious‌ ‌smile‌ ‌spread over ‌her‌ ‌face.‌ Of course she'd misunderstand; Alejandro had to suppress an eye roll.

"And put on your own clothes," he added. Watching her face fall was almost as satisfying as her thirst for him.
No. Better.

The chick ‌frowned,‌ ‌but‌ ‌at‌ ‌least‌ ‌she‌ ‌did‌ ‌what‌ ‌she was told.

After she'd dressed she wrapped her arms around him again.
"Will you call me?" She batted her eyelashes once more.
She shouldn't do that. Didn't suit her.

"Sure honey, when I have time."
More like, never. She was pretty, but God, so dull, only had sex and clothes on the brain.
Another frown, a half-hearted goodbye kiss, and out of the door she went.
Finally.
Alejandro went to bed.

  1. GOD AL.
    You're such an ass πŸ˜‚
    He's wonderful.
(Didn't hate seeing him in those underoos, either 😏)

I like being inside his head, so different from Linda and Frank.
And checking in on Nico and Franny through Al-vision is a treat 😈

Granted, it's truly awful how he treats people (perhaps especially women), and I know I'd hate a guy like that IRL, BUT DAMMIT
    I just can't hate u, Alejandro πŸ˜”
    You're far too entertaining.

LOL at him being a grumpy old man about his clothes and his sleep, man what I wouldn't give for a bit of being in this man's mind when he's reflecting on Linda!

    1. LOL a glorious ass he is! πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

I'm delighted you can't hate him, ngl me neither, he's just sooo much fun to write πŸ˜‚ We saw a peek of his opinion on his band mates, and don't you worry there will be some on Linda too 😏 And other people 😏

  2. I have a creeping suspicion that this chapter was written for the sole purpose of you addressing the cliché (and your pet peeve) of every woman wearing her lover's shirt after sex.😏 But as long as a pretty picture of Nico is sneaked in, I have zero complains.
One day Al must meet his match who will treat him the exact way he treats these women. And I so hope he fall for her hard, even though it's clearly Franny not him who is the band's masochist.

    1. I admit I may have been slightly inspired in adding this specific detail 😏
The question is if Al is capable of falling for *anyone at all* but we'll see about that πŸ˜†

  3. Hehe ... this was so much fun. Alejandro is a hot mess. Hot and mess equally. I laughed so hard about him wanting his shirt back! Glad he got it back though. Such a user. But fun to see things from his POV! And Franny. ❤️ I still love the jerk. He’s not all bad. I guess they are all jerks in one way or another.

yes yes, everyone is a jerk sometimes, some maybe more often than others, but no one is innocent xD

  4. It sounds dishonest to say that I enjoyed this chapter but I really did, although I also wish this woman had just taken Al's shirt and with it, all his money. Goodness, he's really putting up a good show on keeping his second place on the most-hated-characters-of-simlit list >.<

    1. Oh did you? 😏😏 I agree, Alejandro is v entertaining, def entertaining to write, but I'm happy also to read!
Ehehe if he's not careful he may run once into a woman that likes to take a few souvenirs, that's true πŸ˜‚

  5. Narratively, every band needs an Alejandro. Otherwise...nah. I'd tell him to get fucked but he's gladly getting that. :P

  6. Damn, that is a nice view from that apartment. I forgot that AL is loaded so even getting kicked out for being a cheating scumbag means he can still enjoy a pretty sweet pad. Perks of being a rockstar, AKA no karma :D

"No way they'd be forced into selling out" Suuure. I bet it will all be sunshine and rainbows from now on, boys. For a middle-agged-ish man, he sure still sees the world through rose tinted glasses. Probably because he's jsut been cruising through life so far.

"Francesco had finally dumped Psycho-Barbie" Ahem, never mind, scores a zillion points with me for that sentence alone :D And his other thoughts on Rosa. I know, Al, I agree.

With what he's saying about dull rando lady in his shirt being dull, I do wonder if he still misses Linda.

Side note - not that we saw a lot, but as someone that does enjoy decorating based on the character's personalities, I do like Al's apartment, it suits him.

    1. Lol yep, they're not the biggest rockstars ever, but still made quite a decent amount of money so far xD Karma has been quite kind to him so far. Or maybe Karma is just blind lol

Al is "only" 32, I'm crying if he's called middle-aged (for personal reasons haha, god I feel old now)
😭 anyway, it's less that he expects all sunshine and rainbows, but he knows what he wants and knows how to stand up for it, or, if needed, retreat. At least in business 😏

Ehehe, the enemies of my enemies are my friends-kind of thing? XD Al was never a fan of Rosa - or most women, that is, with a few exceptions who he has a ton of respect for (really??? yep). Rosa is not one, neither is dull rando lady (obv)
He may or may not miss Linda specifically, but he's certainly missing someone who's not just a deco barbie, even if he may or may not be aware of it.

Thank you! Yes, I always try to match the place my characters are living in to their personalities. At least with some tiny details here and there if it's a furnished rental, like Mae's postcards in her dorm room 😁
I love seeing the places match the characters in other stories too. Or clothing style. It's nice to see a fully rounded character in general :)

  7. Ok so this time I typed in a word document so there’s no chance of losing my comment lol.
There’s something going on between Al and Rita’s rshp. So many flags. There’s ‘light pressure’ and Rita’s one line of ‘Reputation in the gutter’ and ‘that kind of business’. What is this lack of support and understanding between them? I can go even further and say there’s hints of contempt or condescending attitude there.
Also I wondered what had made Al think that ‘caring too much is a mistake?
Al’s thoughts with his ONS is so interesting. There’s so much space he wants to draw between him and the girl, physical contact is really separated from emotional contact. And the strange subtle powerplay he plays with his ONS. Hm.. There’s so many possibilities at the moment.

His possessiveness on his clothing makes sense though. He is a self-made man who sounds like he came from nothing. Why should he let his pure silk shirt go just because some woman likes it.

There’s too much hidden underneath the surface D: But I like this sneak peak in his brains. He’s not the one dimensional πŸ’© horse that I called him in the past πŸ˜ƒ You’re on a good start to swaying me haha!

    1. aww man right, loosing comments sucks ! 😠

Hehe you absolutely got that right, Rita/Al was never the lovey-dovey romance 😏 I'm actually surprised no one has really caught on on that. I thought at least here it would become quite obv :D
Caring too much is a mistake- yeah why you think he thinks like that, he has made his mistakes in the past πŸ˜†

Right?? Who does she think, just stealing his shirt like that?!

I'm glad you're intrigued <3 at least you won't mind having a few more peeks into that mess of a man in the future 😁
