20.1 Another Wedding
Spring 1998, Basílica
They just arrived shortly before the ceremony should start. Francesco felt the others watching them. It made him uncomfortable.
"It's nice that you could come this time!", Rosa smiled at him, when they sat down to their seats.
"Hey... don't tell anyone, but I delayed the tour start so I could go with you this time", he whispered.
"Really?", Rosa asked, and somehow her smile faded.
"Of course", he said. He was confused.
Hadn't she bugged him always to come with her to her friends? Now he did, and again it seemed wrong.
Slowly he got tired of everything.
On the other side of the church, Mae tried hard to listen to Mariella's twisted version of her latest school prank. But she couldn't help to glimpse to the front row, where Eva's maid of honour sat.
With her husband.
"You lost the bet", she heard Frank say in front of her.
"Damn it!", Diana cursed.
Mae had to laugh.
She wished she could take everything so lightly.
I would be peeking at Francesco too, tbh, but unlike Mae I don't have a husband! She's asking for trouble.

I wonder if Rosa realizes how unhappy she actually is in that marriage. Francesco is trying his best but she doesn't trust anything he says or does which is actually harming herself more than him. Even when he makes arrangement to take her to a wedding she is questioning him. Most likely because Mae is there but they haven't interacted and Mae is there with her family.

It's terrible. She's completely eaten up by her jealousy.
DeleteI wouldn't say it hurts herself more than him. It can be really devastating to see that no matter how much effort you put in, you have no chance to make it better. I'd say they both suffer.
Francisco isn’t going to last much longer. She’s being so awful to him. And when she dumps him, Mae’s gonna be in sooooo much trouble.

ReplyDeletelol I just noticed I didn't mention it. They were betting if Francesco would come, or not! Frank only bet bc it was against Diana!
