A haunting past
13.3 Mae West
Spring 1997, West residenceMae never had conciously listened to any Deep Rift music ever.
Francesco had sometimes hummed some song ideas to her back then in Paris, but that was something else.
So she decided to give it a try, and bought the latest record of the band.
The music wasn't even bad for a genre she usually didn't like. It was quite heavy, though, and with dark lyrics.
His voice sounded different on the record than she remembered it.
Not like when he was singing in that bar, or the soft humming when they were alone.
It started very calm, different than the other songs.
The lyrics were also very different.
Explicit.
"What's wrong?", Linda asked.
Mae hadn't realized she had been so loud.
"Linda! Listen to this!", she said, still confused.
Her sister listened. The chorus was playing again.
"How can he stand on a
stage and sing this without dyeing of shame?!", she cried out.
Mae hadn't realized she had been so loud.
"This is supposed to be a love song, no?", Linda asked as if it was any other bubbly romantic pop song from the radio.
"Uhm... remember the man that talked to me last summer in the night club?", she added, not sure if she ever had told her sister about him.
But Linda also never had asked her.
Usually her sister wasn't too curious about other people's relationships.
"Ohhhh...", Linda looked as if she tried to remember.
"Ah, that one. The one that looked more like the type of man you would date than your current boyfriend", she chuckled.
"Pfff... Herbert is much better!", Mae said.
In her mind she wiped off a bunch of uncomfortable memories that wanted to crawl up again.
"Also Herbert is my fiancé now, please don't forget that", she added.

They are engaged. Something tells me this is a big mistake.
ReplyDeleteMae would certainly disagree :D
DeleteCongrats tho Mae! <3
ReplyDeleteTry to sound more excited k
She might have to practice it more...
DeleteShe just needs to set aside some time in the morning when she's brushing her teefs and stuff: "you are ascite, Mae, you lubs dis man, Mae; BE HAPPY, DEY WILL NOTICE"
DeleteOr somethin
That might have been a good practice. Next time!
DeleteUh oh.. Imthought they would be good. But she still has feelings for Francisco - not good.
ReplyDeleteThe question is rather if those are the feelings that can break her current relationship. Or is her love for Herbert strong enough?
Deletestirring up the past is a bad idea, but perhaps she wanted some closure. That must be awkward hearing your ex lover sing about your relationship.
ReplyDeleteSo far Mae avoided to think too much about what Francesco does now. She wants to move on. But she couldn't help her curiosity xD
DeleteThe question is still, is the song really about their past relationship? Or something else? Mae would know, but I cannot write it here, as it would be a spoiler xD
WHAT?! And we didn't get to witness the engagement firsthand?! I wanted to see Herbert accidentally drop the ring or something. :(
ReplyDeletewell Mae asked him by the way, so there's nothing special, I think he dropped whatever he held in his hands tho.
DeleteMusic speaks to the heart and soul. 😶
ReplyDeleteLet's be honest, aren't all 90s rock songs kinda dirty 😏😂
DeleteUm, ok Mae, ok... *rolls eyes*
